Valkyrie Wilderness Workshops exists to support Armed Forces Veterans and members of our community who are experiencing problems with wellbeing, mental health, physical health, or transition to civilian life.
We do this through individual and group support, outdoor activities and advocacy.
Veterans are invited to join us once a month, free of charge, for a day of outdoor activities a meal and friendly supportive chat. We can help identify solutions to practical or financial problems as well as simply providing a day away from the stresses of everyday life.
Eligible veterans are those who may be experiencing difficulties with mental health, self-esteem, isolation or loneliness, substance use, or transitioning into civilian life.
For those who may not feel ready or able to attend an event in person we can provide some elements of our support via phone, video calls, email or messages.
We would welcome anyone who is interested to contact us through the contact form or our Facebook page.
A short testimonial sent in by one of our veterans:
After struggling with my mental health for the past 7 years, getting in trouble with the Police, getting into debt, losing my job and considering suicide to the point I was sat on the railway bridge waiting for a train to come, I reached out for help.
I was put onto a counselling program which I’ve been with for the past 3 years.
I came across Valkyrie Wilderness Workshops on Facebook, what they stood for really resonated with me and I made contact. I was invited to one of their Veterans Retreats.
Following that first camp I was told by my therapist that I’ve taken over 6 months off my recovery program due to the time with the Valkyrie Team.
Valkyrie has given me the courage, confidence, and inspiration from fellow Veterans at the camp to embrace my therapy and take control of my mind once more.
Team Valkyrie and the fellow Veterans accepted me without judgement, remark or bias. They made me realise I’m not worthless or less of a man for going through what I have.
